All about this Welding Awareness Course

By law, employers must protect their workers and others from the health and safety risks associated with welding operations. It applies to all types of welding, regardless of the duration, task and location.

You will look at the different types of welding, such as electric arc and oxy-fuel and will consider why welding health and safety is important. You will look at the industries that typically carry out welding and some examples of the workers at risk.

You will also explore some of the health and safety legislation relating to welding operations and employer and employee duties. You will also consider how these laws are enforced and the penalties for non-compliance.

You will also consider the legal requirements for risk assessment, why these are important and who is responsible. You will also look at some factors to include when assessing welding operations and the five steps of risk assessment.

You will explore engineering controls, focussing on local exhaust ventilation (LEV) to control welding fume. You will also consider when respiratory protective equipment (RPE) is required and will cover general ventilation and safety data sheets.

You will finish the course by exploring the need for training, emergency procedures and first aid when carrying out welding tasks.
